Employee Appreciation Day – March 2, 2012
Employee Appreciation Day, the first Friday in March, first arrived on calendars in 1995. A Recognition Professionals International’s founding Board member, together with his publishing company, Workman Publishing, created Employee Appreciation Day as a way of focusing the attention of all employers, in all industries on employee recognition. It is always the first Friday in March.
Employee recognition is more powerful than any other motivator. We all know cash bonuses are spent on bills and many perks are soon forgotten. Personalizing recognition can create a memory and those memories build higher performance. Recognition can take a hundred forms and variations. Here are just a few ideas:
1. Ask an employee to write down six ways they would like to be rewarded. Anything goes. The only rule is that half the ideas need to be low cost or no cost.
2. Schedule lunch dates with employees. Give them an opportunity to select the luncheon site, and use the time to simply get to know them better.
3. Offer a free one-year subscription to an employee’s favorite business magazine and have it sent to their home.
4. Consider a gift certificate entitling an employee to lunch with you or another mentor of his/her choosing for the purpose of being coached on one or more topics.
5. Offer a shopping spree to a local supply store for an employee to get items (no staplers or paper clips allowed) to personalize his/her office or cubicle.
6. Give the gift of wellness. Have a limousine pick up an employee for a full day at a spa. Give gift coupons for ballroom dance, yoga or golf lessons.
7. Give a fun-loving employee a series of On your mark-get set-GO cards that they can redeem at their discretion. For example: Leave work early to go to a movie, or shopping, or play ball.
8. Send a handwritten note of thanks for the completion of a job well done.
9. If an employee stays late/goes above and beyond to complete a project, send the employee and his/her partner to a nice dinner.
10. Purchase a company “toy” your employees would most enjoy; a cappuccino machine, dart board, volleyball court, exercise room.

DRESS FOR SUCCESS PHOENIX SUIT DRIVE
March 10, 2012 at 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM Dress for Success Phoenix Office, Avondale http://www.dressforsuccess.org/phoenix
Do you have extra business attire to share with someone just starting her career? Well, we may have the answer!
On March 10, 2012, Ajilon Professional Staffing, in coordination with SMA of Greater Phoenix, will be hosting a suit drive to benefit Dress for Success Phoenix, the local affiliate of an international non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing them with professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to thrive in work and in life.
All donations are tax-deductible. In order to provide a community outreach effort, please contact me directly to arrange and schedule pick up times for donated items prior to this event. I can be reached at: morgan.carlson@ajilon.com or via phone: 480.302.1812
If you would like to deliver your denotations, suits can be dropped off on March 10, 2012 between 10am-2pm at 1024 East Buckeye Road, Suite 165 Phoenix, AZ 85353
We can only accept women’s suits, skirts, pants, shoes and bags. If an item is appropriate to wear to work and if you would still feel comfortable wearing it on an interview, we’ll take it!
No Clothes to Donate? Maybe you would like to make a monetary donation to complete a woman’s interview attire. Dress for Success Phoenix is in dire need of new white blouses, shoes, handbags, and pant suits for their participants. The organization receives so much appropriate business attire and many suits but often has a very limited supply of white blouses, shoes, and handbags to complete the outfits. To supplement the inventory, Dress for Success Phoenix has created the “Making a Difference” fund. If you are interested in learning more about this option, please let us know!
Dress for Success Phoenix understands that if a woman doesn’t have a job, she can’t afford career-oriented clothes. But without the right clothes, she can’t get the job! You will be helping someone less fortunate get on the road to success. If you would like more information on Dress for Success Phoenix, please visit www.dressforsuccess.org/phoenix If you have any questions, please call Morgan Carlson at 480.302.1812
February is National Heart Month
This February support the American Heart Association along with the health of your family and employees.
Invest in the health of your employees with tools from the American Heart Association available at www.heart.org. Poor diet and lack of exercise are responsible for at least 25% of healthcare costs incurred by working adults. Is it any wonder, then, that investing in the health of employees is one of the best decisions a company can make? By creating a wellness environment, your company can help lower healthcare costs and protect its most important resource — your employees. In fact, research shows that for every $1 invested in worksite wellness, companies can receive up to $3 in return.
Take the extra step and join the American Heart Association Phoenix Heart Walk at Tempe Beach Park on Saturday February 25th. Participate in the 5K Heart Walk or the 1 mile Stroke Walk followed by a Heart Healthy Festival.
Looking for a team to join? Join members of the American Society of Women Accountants on the Number Crunchers team. Visit ww.phoenixheartwalk.org to join or donate to the American Heart Association.
